Very strong purple and green color fringing at the corners. I noticed it almost immediately even on Youtube resolution and not watching it in full screen. This lens was on my radar since a nikon Z variant is coming, but now I'm not so sure. It'll work fine as a video lens though.

It would be great a comparison vs the Sony 11mm f1.8 and Samyang 12mm f2

They should really change Yongnuo's logo. It looks like a logo for a toy. The build kind of resembles sigma contemporary lenses which is pretty cool for an affordable lens.

Bought this lens the day after watching this video and its not just the nicest lens ive owned so far but also payed itself as it was just what i needed. Got the version without the remote and now i get why its an option, way too difficult to use with most follow focus systems. Finally ca in corners is ALWAYS noticeable but personally im not bothered by it. Thanks for this review

Thanks for the review. Looks like I'll keep using my Samyang 12mm f/2 that I bought 8 years ago.

I actually find it humorous that you have to zoom into the corners by several hundred percentage points to see issues with corner sharpness. I've never looked at a photograph and wondered about the corners. Imagine walking around a gallery with a huge magnifying glass in your hand. Because that is what you would need to look at a photograph to examine the corner sharpness.

Luckily, as a filmmaker, I don't concern myself with corner sharpness. Even as a photographer, if people are looking at the corners of your photographs then clearly your photos are not all that interesting.

That being said, this looks like a pretty good lens for the price. Thanks for the demonstration.

Chris.. have you reviewed the Yongnuo 85 1.8 (upgraded version)? I think this might be a sleeper of a street lens...

The lens got a firmware update recently. It might be interesting to check, if there is any difference in quality

IDK, I mean between the Sony (and other third party options) I would almost pay the extra $200 for what should be better IQ. But if you're on a strict budget, this shouldn't be that bad as long as your expectations are reasonable for this lens. I'd say that the fringing is what bothered me the most in this lens, personally, even though it can be removed in post usually, it's just an extra step and it doesn't seem to really go away at all, but I guess that's one of the drawbacks of the cheaper lenses. I guess things could have been a lot worse but then again, it may pay to spend a little more if you need sharper corners and better quality overall.

I was surprised how really sharp it is at f1.8 in the middle of the image, for a Yongnuo it gives very good results

i really hope they will release this for fuji x mount ;c

fullframe coverage is insane, but so is distortion. If they would update their firmware to straighten corners and darkness for fullframe, it would be great fullframe lens.

Quite good for a very bright, wide angle aps-c lens. Would gladly have this on the RF line rather than that wonky 16mm f/2.8, or 10-18mm

Have had this lens for some months now, and the corners is just barely passable, at any f/stop. And more "messy" than "blury"...Razor sharp 2/3 center oval! The strange thing is that edge/corner sharpness is much better at closer focus, say from about 1m and allmost down to the closest focus distance, which is really sharp on my copy. Love the sunstar, good flare resistance, very close minimum focus, and fast quiet af. Still use my old Samyang 12mm (mf) when edge/corner sharpness is critical and astro/night. But the Samyang is terrible at C.A, (easy to remove though) and flare/ugly sunstar, (not easy to fix..😅)

I was interested in a lens like this but the optical perfomance in the corners just isn't doing it for me :< Viltrox need to make a super wide prime like their 27 and 75

is there any noise during autofocusing when recording video? With my RF16, you can hear the focusing with a rode mic on top of the camera.
