i was a truck driver for 15 yrs. and the last 5 years of it, i started behaving kinda like this dude. i got out, gone on meds and all is now well. you can develop a lot of mental issues being alone in a truck for years. i love and appreciate anyone that ever spent time over the road.

This happens when folks deny that they need mental help.

How many red flags did authorities need? He obviously had mental issues that were escalating… such a sad story…

Has a relative with paranoid schizophrenia. When on meds she was functional but the brain told her she no longer needed the meds because she felt fine and hated the side effects.
Sadly, she felt no one would listen to her despite professional and family’s attempt. She took her life by drinking Draino.
A horrible death despite medical professional efforts.

I had a friend with this same problem. He thought every plane or helicopter that was flying over was the government spying on him. We tried to tell him it wasn't, but he wouldn't listen. We told his mom that he needed to be on meds, but nothing happened. So we just laughed it off, even made fun of him when he would bring it up, which was A LOT. Eventually, he just stopped talking about it. It was weird, like his brain corrected itself with ridicule.

Paranoid Schizophrenia. He was probably hearing voices, and very delusional.

I think this says as much about the sad sorry state of American healthcare as it does anything else.

I strongly suspect that in a more humane and just society this dude would have received proper mental health treatment.

This form of paranoid schizophrenia is also known as 'gangstalking'.

How can a man expect the FBI to leave him alone when he is just so damn interesting? Huh?!

One has to have quite the ego to think every branch of the government and law enforcement is out to get them, and spend unlimited resources focused COMPLETELY on HIM! He was self absorbed af, and that was feeding in to his acute paranoid schizophrenia. There should have been intervention by the mental health team. He had no right to harrass at all hours of the night. The couple with a tiny baby should never have had to experience that! What a menace! This situation was horrific!

I’m a paramedic and without knowing the details it’s easy to say “why did they not do this or that” but here is the problem, he’s been doing it for over 30 years and at his final moments he was convinced the government was out for him and nothing would have changed that because he would see any intervention as the “FBI” this or that. There are people that are crazy, but stable and that’s how it will always be, the people moving in played a part they could never disprove in this man’s mind, I’m not even sure protective custody would have worked.

Always amazed by how little of the 911 information that end up reaching the first responders. Out of police perspective that's a huge workplace problem, being exposed to extra risks.
