There’s a difference between playing hard and playing cheap. If you can’t guard a guy that’s on you, you shouldn’t be allowed to just hit them. On top of that all the preventable injuries too

And that's what people who watch the game today don't understand. They negate the fact that these little nuances no longer exist which gives the offensive player an unfair advantage. He's already the most skilled and greatest athlete. Back then you could offset that by taking guys out their comfort zone by being physical. Not saying you were going to stop them but it at least made things much more difficult to get in rhythm whereas today guys can do whatever they want. Of course the game will appear to be more fluid and skilled when in reality the rules allow it
