Having studied books 9 and 10 of Paradise Lost for A-Level it took me a solid year to actually get into it but when it all clicked it was one of the most satisfying poems to go through. Genuinely love the psuedo-psychoanalysis Milton does for Adam in book 10.

Also if you like Mansfield Park, I wholeheartedly recomend Vanity Fair by William Thackeray

Thank you for this! Completely random question (sorry) - on average, how many lectures/seminars did you have a week in 1st year?

I’ve just finished my final year of English Lit and I honestly think I read less than 50% of the books I was set. I’d start them all, but I usually always ran out of time to finish them 🙊 and I don’t know how because I didn’t read anything else for three years! I’m not sure I’ve read any of the books that you had to, though, bar one or two!

Were most of these books from the mandatory units or from the optional units? I’m studying English at Bristol this Sept so this video has made me so excited to read more x

Virginia Woolf is certainly feminist, one of the best known British feminist writers ever! Certainly the best of the Bloomsbury group of writers. I strongly recommend you read 'A Room Of One's Own' by her, especially if you ever feel like writing a book!

Ah, I bet it's no fun having to read books you're told to read, rather than what you want to read!
