A very spoiled Rat :)

On a recent visit to one of our adopter's homes, I was absolutely amazed and moved at how well cared for, and how integral their rats obviously were as part of the family. It made us realize that we had lucked out by finding a truly perfect home for our lone, neutered boy Socrates.

This is a short video I took (with their permission) of their youngest daughter cradling one of their resident rats as he eats a piece of home-made bread... on his BACK!

How many rat do you know trust you enough that they can do this?

Domesticated rats are honestly so cute. But I don't think I'll ever get one due to their short life span and I'll end up being sad most of the time.

I had one few years ago. I called him Bobby. He was like a little dog. while outside, he was always running behind me until he could catch me and then he felt safe only on my shoulder or in the pocket. Inside, in his little house, when he heard that the door bang - he went to see who came - if it was me. If yes, he ran to me, climbed up my body and sat on my shoulder. If not - he went back to his little house. He liked when I was cooking - he sat on my shoulder and checked up if it is right. Needless to say - i could give him pieces of what i was cutting etc. like carrot. When he wanted to show me his affection, he was licking my ears by his little tongue very gently. It is pity that they live so short. I still miss him. He died in my palm while i sang him a goodbye song.... very clever creature...

Rats are the best pocket pets ^^ I take mine on walks with me (if they have the personality for it) I even let them eat the herbs hubby and I grow =)

What a cute fuzz ball. I had a hooded rat named Gus. I would take him out for a swim in a basin of warm water and he loved it. I changed his bedding in his aquarium and cleaned everything up once a week and he knew that day was a swim day for him and not just a regular let him out for time with me day. He was a great and beautiful rat.
