Saki Kaskas & Rom Di Prisco - Kallista (Callista Long Mix)

Kallista is a mix of the song "Callista" by Saki Kaskas and Rom Di Prisco, originally from Need For Speed: High Stakes in 1999. This rare mix is found on Rom Di Prisco's 2004 compilation DVD archive under the "Bitstream Dream" name. It is a beautiful version of a song I've long cherished since its appearance in the Playstation 1 version of High Stakes.

While not only appearing in Need for Speed, the short version Callista has recently been featured in EA and Bioware's Mass Effect 2. Callista can be heard in the Afterlife club on Omega, as well as in Shepard's personal quarters on the music player. Its reappearance has brought this song back into the limelight, encouraging me to share it.

Even though the main point of interest is the music track, I didn't want to simply upload a song with a simple picture (it feels tacky honestly). So I loaded up the latest Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, and recorded a joyride around Seacrest County. Callista is a great song for traveling, whether it be along Earth's coasts, or across the galaxy.

Turning on that old 1999 computer, insert the NFS High Stakes CDrom into the drive, starting the game in that hot room on summer, willing to take your BMW or your Porsche to blast in an virtual european track with this music in the menu? Now THAT was NFS.
It's a shame Saki Kaskas never got any sort of recognition for his work from EA. There's an award nomination for NFS Heat "soundtrack" recently...can you believe that crap? C'mon! Where's the award for Rom di Prisco and/or to Saki Kaskas for their contributions to create a total experience for NFS?

Time changes it seems :/
RIP Saki <3

This song is the perfect definition of that type of loneliness that makes you wiser and stronger neither weak and useless

The moment you enter the Afterlife club on Omega, realizing you're listening to a 10-year-old song, and you just go up in the atmosphere, feeling that you are actually there.
Standing among the crowd of Turians, Salarians, Krogan, Batarians and Humans, watching some young 100-year-old Asari shake her ass while hanging upside down on a pole. Just amazing. Truly amazing.
Also one of the only possible situations where you can say (and people will believe you): "Oh, I only come here for the music."

So, about two years back when I was playing the RPG game Mass Effect 2, I come across the Afterlife club, I hear this... music... in the distance, my brain recognizes it, but I'm still trying to remember where I heard it, where I listened to it. I stop moving around and focus, I'm at the front door of Afterlife, just gazing upon the clubs doors and still trying to recall that past memory as I keep listening to the music. Until I suddenly realise that this music was my childhood, this music was from 20 years ago, this music was what made me fall in love with cars, this music was what made NFS: High Stakes a timeless classic for me.

Diablo SV, I love you baby.

RIP Saki

21 Year after Need For Speed HS. Driving my own 226-HP-Car on a Country Road right into sunset with this Song. So many memories. R.I.P Saki. Thank you for being such a big contribute to my road to being a petrolhead. I guess this will still play in my Garage when i'm 80 years old.

Saki, Your music helped define my childhood, you inspired me to become a music producer, and your music STILL continues to inspire me 18 years after having first heard it. I am at such a loss for words, and heart broken beyond belief.
FOREVER an Inspiration.
REST IN PEACE.
