Deja vu! My mother was a meticulous genealogy researcher who co-published two books of family genealogy. There are six of us kids ... and guess who got all the research materials? I gave the papers that supported the books to our state library's genealogy department. They were thrilled to get it. This podcast is very helpful.

You, my dear, are a Genealogical Genius ❤! That long email I sent a few hours ago-you have answer
ALL my concerns in this video!

I have done a lot of these things just being my neurotic self, but now I have a game plan ❤!

I wish I would have had this info when my mom was alive.

God Bless!

My youngest recently moved out (bought his first home). My plans for his bedroom, matches this episode perfectly, after repainting, I plan on putting in a desk, second monitor and I’m taking over the closet, with shelving units. My plans were in place before this episode, so the timing was perfect. I do have boxes of great grandmother’s things and old photos so this winter I’ll have plenty to keep me busy. Thanks for all your great ideas….from this episode and all others! Anne-Marie

This year, my father gave me a small box of my deceased mother's genealogy. I have it sitting on my copier/printer/scanner combo, just waiting for a day when the mood hits to scan it all in digitally, then place in archival sheet protectors before placing them in yet another family binder in my huge shelving unit in my living room. Hope the mood hits this winter!

Knew you’d have some tips for my next challenge as I’ve just received more family ‘stuff’. I have 20 large taking-up-too-much-room photo albums from the 1960s to 1990s. It is a joy throwing away the duplicate, the blurred, the too far away, the unknown, the scenery, the floral, the landscape, the umpteenth pet and just hold onto the goodies, carefully labelled and stacked in one small archive box. Many thanks as always.

About ten years ago the San Diego Genealogical society had items to place with descendents, when we could not locate any living descendants we donated to a library or university archives. Some of these require a deed of gift and you may also want to look at their culling practices (which mean that sometimes they throw out stuff) Deed of gift means that you surrender control of the item to the library or archive. Some archives like the collection arranged in a particular format as well. Most of what we placed were family photos and family bibles. We were able to place were documents from the Wedgeforth family who founded the San Diego Zoo, the Zoo has an archives in the San Diego safari park. Archives show up in interesting places.

Thank you so much for all these ideas! I love the simple, put it in a clear box by family!! I always overcomplicate. My cousin sent me an envelope of things she found going through her parent's things. Our mothers are sisters, and their maiden name is Bach. There was a booklet given to my grandfather, Dr. Wilgus Bach, by a lady before he died in 1936 of a genealogy compiled by someone with no sources AND no years!! It tells how one of the Bach descendants changed his name to Baugh, so it wouldn't be pronounced as Back. I have to figure out where how and when to link all the people in this booklet. You have given me a start. Thank you! Bt the way, Wilgus was an avid genealogist as was my mother and all long before computers. I have inherited the gene they passed on.

Now what? Validate the Research to know whether or not to put in the Burn Barrel in the Back Yard. If it's good, Digitize it. If not burn it.
