As an American who wasn't born until after the Vietnam War was over, I don't understand why it was so difficult to distinguish between having respect for the service members who served and having respect for the inappropriateness of the war, especially given that some people were serving due to the draft. I wish my education had not been eerily silent about historical events after 1950, and I feel slightly betrayed by my society for my ignorance.
