How the UFC Reebok Deal cost UFC fighters millions of dollars overnight.

Before the UFC entered into apparel deals with Reebok and Venom, fighters had more freedom to have sponsors on their fight kits, which provided for a ton of extra revenue for fighters.

They could have a ton of sponsors person and get paid tens of thousands of dollars for the exposure. It was a win-win.

However, in 2014, the UFC entered an apparel deal with Reebok, which prevented fighters from having sponsors on their person in the octagon.

This did add a cleaner look to the sport by not having fighters look like racecars, but it cut off their earning potential.

Fighters have been complaining about it for years, but with the Reebok deal now becoming the Venom deal, there doesn’t seem to be any sign of sponsorships coming back.

I miss the sponsors for the fighters not only bc it helped them but also bc I felt like the old shorts had more personality and made each fighter unique. The iceman’s shorts are first to come to mind with the ice coming off the waistband, so sick

Interviewer :"Its gonna look professional".
Dana : "Yeah exactly".
Bullshit, as long as ufc makes money, they don't care about their fighters. Period.

They say that the fighters didn't look good with those sponsors on their shorts which I can agree, it wasn't a sleek design and the venum design is very nice, but they could have allowed fighters to have a limited amount of sponsors on their shorts like 2-3 which would keep the sleek look and also allow fighters to make more money. Also, the ufc octagon literally looks so messy now with random sponsors on the canvas.

Theres ads everywhere on a PPV. You'll hear and see an ad constantly. How is this a professional look? The fighters dont get a share of ad revenue. Nor residual royalties each time their highlights are used. Fighters got fucked out of their own image rights too. Peak ufc is over. I hope it fades away

I wonder if Chuck Liddell or Tito Ortiz were competing in today's mma, would they be able to wear their iconic shorts. The iceman shorts and the fire shorts are another small detail that helped their rivalry and overall rise to the legends that they are now

It's sooo boring! Let the fighters have different looks, it's part of their persona/style and what we remember them by. "looks clean" yeah just another way of saying boring asf

I disagree with the idea, however I can’t deny it looks way more professional

They should all be able to have at least one. Which is a middle ground for aesthetic and money.

This is one of there tactics to keep fighter pay down and the fighter having to depend strictly on purse money.
