Future twist: You can mess up the hunters compasses. They get stuck on a certain location, so if they go there, they will dig down and look for you. Or better: The coordinates change on their own as if you were still running somewhere.
Temporary effect, of course.

That plugin also should've made a troll that causes animals to attack players for a duration, or one that spawns a charged speedboosted creeper by other players.

since the hunters were unable to return to the end portal, boosfer should have bridged out (using slabs if necessary - remember - end stone brick slabs are a thing) onto the outer islands and gotten his hands on chorus fruits. it's a garbage food source but it is SO easily collectible once you reach the outer end.
