Ceanis/Trico spinner fly, The smallest of the up-winged may flies. Although ideally matched on a # 20-26 hook it is possible to get away with a # 18. A couple of interesting techniques here for the tails and wing. Just change the colour of the moose mane in the body to match the hatch.

Again, nicely done! This one is a walk down memory lane. Under the tutelage of a very old man, I began tying as a very young lad. Growing up in a remote area of northern Wisconsin in the 1960's, materials and information were hard to come by. I watched a Fall hatch and could not get my head around the tiny, mosquito-size, insects they were rising to. I tied a very crude version of this, with kip tail for tailing and wings, on the smallest hook I could find, probably a 16 or 18, and wore those flies out. Those days were the beginning of this, most enjoyable, addiction. Those native Brookies, with full Fall color, remain a memory I wish now I could share with another generation. Neither the fish nor the fishermen are as they were, unfortunately.
