Hello Aluxers! Do you think old-school luxury fashion is overrated — or is it still worth the hype?

Old-schooled fashion is definitely overrated. However, cheap fashion is overrated as well. Starting to make nakedness more desirable lol. Seriously: I’d take quality and eco-friendly over cheap any day.

Luxury right now is owning companies through investing in stocks, mutual funds, index funds etc. 💯

Most millennials don’t care about fashion we care about not experiencing 2008 again and buying a house.

I use to wear South Pole in school, now I can’t stand to wear huge logos on my clothes. Blank and very comfortable is the only way I go, Levi’s, Gildan, Hanes, Fruit of the Loom.

I’m 24 and into fashion and insta doesn’t influence me at all. I favour craftsmanship, quality, brand heritage etc. over the latest trends

I am good with my Ross and TJ Maxx. The goal is to get rich not to look rich.

After the pandemic, fashion just seems so irrelevant now. Unless you’re getting all dressed up for an important event( not during lockdowns) or for an important job interview, it all seems pointless now.

Fur Leather Silk Cotton Linen Bamboo are all eco friendly.
When they are no longer useful they return to Earth as fertilizer in about a year or less.
Plastic based fabrics like nylon, rayon, polyester take hundreds of years to break down.

The people who can afford it, will always buy from the old fashion houses. A slowdown might have happened but it will come back to normal..

High fashion is still more relevant than most of what is discussed here. Social media is FULL of influencers peddling worthless garbage. Some of it sells and sells well (see MVMT watches) and if that's the test then we can acknowledge that many of these small start ups and net based companies will make lots of money in the short run. My instinct tells me that 50 years from now companies like Burberry, Ralph Lauren, Rolex, Channel and Armani will still be more relevant than much of the social media influenced stuff we currently applaud.

Personally I'm willing to pay a bit extra for any quality product be it clothes, tools, appliances, or guns. I do have some brand loyalty to products I've used, abused, and have a good warranty. I would never pay $$$ for a pair of shoes that will be out of fashion next year or break down.

H&M and Zara are using people wrapped up in Modern slavery, that's also why it's cheaper then some other brands. It's unethical.

‘Don’t care about fashion or fast fashion. Cheap, physical quality, and looks ok/bland is the way to live. Paying for prestige is poor decision making.

I only go to zara to buy basic clothes but I still think that getting a good quality products is always the best. Indeed some of these luxury goods are way overpriced because of the demand which is why I tend not to go with the trend rather buy something that I think that I will use and that will last long.

We all know that there are some products that are too expensive, but when you buy high fashion items, buy it cause it’s gonna last long, not cause it’s a branded product. And this is why people buy fakes because they are in it for the name, not for the quality of the product. 😶

I believe there are a few dynamics that Alux is missing. Fashion trends never really ever started with heritage luxury houses, it came from the people on the ground, we are now going through a new renaissance where we are experiencing those brands who will be the new Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Chanel etc. We have more independent designers than ever. The ones that will last are the ones where are able to leverage quality and make products with an actual monetary value that creates a market where consuming them becomes an investment. If heritage brand dnt hire new perspective they will die!

I find a lot of these "luxury" at the thrift store.
