I'm an Egyptian, British politics nor Brexit effect me even remotely, yet this Channel is incredibly entertaining and informative. Thank you!

If a party has a more ambitious target and attempts to hit it, surely if they have to concede a little and delay by five years in the process of making it happen, it's better than a party committed to only putting in the minimum effort required of them and guaranteeing a later date regardless?

Lets be honest, the conservatives are setting a low bar that they won’t even achieve. Just because something is more ‘realistic’ doesn’t mean they have the political will to get it done.

I’d argue that being very ambitious is necessary when facing such an existential crisis. To expect to match the goals perfectly may be asking a lot but to miss a “realistic” goal is fatal.

Setting a distant target like 2050 is an easy way to do nothing and claim you're still on target. As someone who's terrible at setting themselves deadlines, I know this all too well.

'Realistic' = 'do nothing'...

If you don't set ambitious targets nothing will happen

Meanwhile, in the US, 'is climate change a hoax'?

Net zero by 2050 isn’t a plan the conservatives will accomplish. That’s how it works in that party - you promise the least ambitious plan, call yourself “realistic”, then don’t live up to that plan.

I’d rather aim for net zero by 2030 and not get there until 2040, rather than aim for 2050 and get there never

Sadly, planting trees is like the ban on straws. Good idea but not enough.
Net zero by 2050. Good idea but way too late.

We need to be there early, to win patents on green tech for a new industrial revolution.

Just noticed the timer at the start on the bottom left. A neat little addition. Keep up the improvements!

3:16 I would argue that investment into these technologies could be a good thing for British business. Especially as we're not the only country with the goal of net 0 emissions.

Fun fact: A massive 8% of global CO2 emissions comes from concrete production. This is the largest single fraction of CO2 emissions.

For comparison, combustion vehicles adds less than 1% of global CO2 emissions.

There's no so thing as too ambitious when it comes to fighting Climate Change.

when the problems we face are that big, we need to be radical!

I think we've spent the last few decades dithering about climate change with small and ineffective reforms. It's far too late to solve the climate crisis gradually, it has to be done now and quickly.

Its not just tree planting.

What about restoring or building flood dispersion/flood plains. It causes billions in damages, washes away soil nutrients and can cause landslides. Tree planting can help in this a great deal, but we're building housing estates in all the places that help keep our landscape from washing away every time we have a heavy downpour.
