Great enemy balance I noticed. All of their units are relatively killable, but still have the ability to destroy you if not careful. Even their heavies can be destroyed by most means of weaponry in a loadout.

These guys are a strong cross between War of the worlds (walkers obviously), Aliens from Independence day (namely thier ships) have a close resemblance, and Reaper corruption from Mass Effect.

The illuminate is the only faction that feels like an actual alien invasion. The terminids feel like just dangerous native species and the automatons are definitely dope but give off more terminator vibes. But the illuminate feels like a old sci fi alien invasion movie

I've just realized this game hits a very cathartic feeling, because unlike most "alien invasion" movies, in Helldivers we can actually shoot and fight and kill these things
