Those old days of iPods. Bring back memories.

they're also designed SPECIFIALLY for music. they will drive more power to your IEM's than your phone thus better sound quality

If you suffer from super ultra fucked up level of mobile addiction then this is highly suggested as you don’t venture out into opening other social apps when you unlock your phone to change the song

I still sometimes use a Sansa Clip. I bought it in bankruptcy sale for just a couple EUR about 18 years ago and the audio quality that thing is just insanely good!

I don't think one may easily buy something as good today.

Perhaps time to design a little open source one with esp32 and whatnot. Spotify with cache would be extra ideal, but also likely, extra nearly impossible. Unless maybe with something akin to Vocore.

I would recommend a device like the BTR11 or the BTR13, It offers a wireless connection to your laptop/phone and also has a quite powerful AMP

it might be good for audiophiles but Buying a music player just cos there is no earphone jack on phones is crazy. just get a 3.5mm to type c converter it'll give the exact audio quality of a 3.5mm jack

No man, it's not about the size and type of connectivity, the main reason why not to use that DAP is sound quality. There are now a couple of very expensive DAPs that have decent internal DACs, but the vast majority don't, so having a cell phone as a streamer with a good external dongle DAC is a more preferable way to go for sound quality alone. There are of course other benefits to prefer a cell and DAC, but sound quality is the main one. Are there any benefits to use a DAP? Well... the main reason would be because you absolutely love it! And it's perfectly fine. The other one would be if your DAP has more storage than your cell and you absolutely need all those TB...

A better option for IEM users is to get a true wireless 2-pin or whatever connection your IEM uses. I have the Fanmusic TRN true wireless for my 7hz Timeless and it's incredible.

I absolutely love these, but for those wondering about other ways to use wired headphones with your phone, 2 other also good options are:

1) portable dac: connects to your phone via Bluetooth

2) headphone dongle: allows you to connect your headphones/iems through your charging port

Also music streaming services can & will take down content for their sites, especially if the material is controversial.
If you buy & download music you own it and it can't be taken away, remember that.
