Kung Fu Panda has some of the best villains of all time. Tai Lung, Lord Shen, and Kai are unique and menacing in their own unique ways.

I love that on rewatch of 3 you can REALLY tell that Kai and Oogway are honestly stoked to see each other again. Like, yeah they’re fighting and they know they’re gonna fight, but also they joke and smile at each other cause on some level they’ve still got that brother bond. Kai genuinely cared about Oogway, he carried him to the panda village to begin with, and Oogway CLEARLY cares about Kai, still calls him his Old Friend

Going to be honest, I think Lord Shen was the best designed villain in motive and looks. He also had amazing character creation, design, and development.

I just realized that lord Shen is kinda like Hitler. He's an aggressive, crazy dictator whose obsessed with getting and keeping power and decides to eliminate an entire race (the pandas) to do so. He starts a massive industrial war campaign aimed at conquering as much as possible while inventing new and cruel weapons to make everyone fear him and further eliminate his enemies.
If you compare this to Hitler, it pretty dang accurate

Chameleon's biggest weakness as a character was just being the only one to not be directly connected to the big Po growth thing of the movie. In the first movie, Po needs to learn that the secret weapon to being the dragon warrior is just being himself, so the enemy is someone who's entire sense of self is "I am the rightful dragon warrior and I was simply robbed of my title". The second movie is about inner peace, so the villain is the source of all of Po's trauma. The third one is Po coming full circle and becoming a leader, so the enemy is someone from the past of the people he's learning to lead, and the most iconic leader of the franchise. Meanwhile, the fourth one is about Po accepting his changing role from hero to teacher and having to find a successor, and the best connection Chameleon has to the internal conflict is the fact that she never had a teacher so instead she's just going to take the knowledge instead of earning it. It could've worked, but we would've needed more time with both sides of the concept for it to really sell it properly.

Lord shen just felt menacing when i watched it. One of the only villains that actually felt scary, maybe because of the color scheme or how he acted and sorted things out, but it was a great villain
