Entering a tarantula burrow in the wild and getting a little more than you bargained for

Short video of us investigating a burrow belonging to a female Coremiocnemis hoggi tarantula in Malaysia. She was not impressed to see us, and it turned out she had good reason to be particularly defensive.. :-)
Update: Just to clarify some information, based on user comments. This is a tarantula, not a Trap Door Spider. It is indeed common practise for spiders to silken up their burrows during the day to stop marauding ants from coming in. They regularly do this in the morning and remove it at night and the process takes less than 30 minutes (not 12 hours). By using an endoscope to enter the burrow, it is a non-destructive nature friendly method of investigating what's in a burrow.. compared to the historic traditional method of "digging the spider out". The burrow was undamaged, the spider unharmed.

Imagine you're a sole mother chilling with your kids, then a machine breaks at your house, stares at you, then leaves 💀

Funfact most animals will always give you a warning whether it be color, movement, or non lethal bites. In this case tarantulas don't chase you down in fact they lift their front legs up to warn you to stay away from them. Meaning the spider doesn't want to hurt you unless you provoked it.

Aww she has babies! Those trap doors take 12 hours to make and she was using it to keep ants and other predators away from her newborns it looks like. What an amazing view, thanks for not doing extensive damage. Nature needs all the help she can get.

It actually looks kind of cosy down there with all the soft webbing on the walls.

And so FINALLY we see the back story into Shelob's life. Now we understand her hostility towards Frodo. The last time something had entered her lair of its own volition, it was a robot - and she knew it was after her children 😂

Spiders are like the designs of Nature if said Nature was an engineer. They work perfectly and are efficient at what they do. Such a magnificent creature.

It is a wild thing. The greatest and most respectful gift that you can give to any wild thing is your absence.

This is quite amazing footage! Both reinforcing how alien arthropods are from us, and how they're so much like us in many ways as well!

The babies are the cutest things I've ever seen. Mom reminds me of Shelob from Lord of the Rings.
