17 year mechanic in salty rusty north east USA here! Mat, in the future, a small amount of superglue will seal the small hole in the old boot. it will also work on the long cut, but thats more likely to fail. either way, super glue and rubber work very very well together for small repairs like that. the 2nd hand one will eventually fail from the heat damage though and crack. I too have fought with that death bolt and the trick is to use heat with an air hammer at the same time. turn the knuckle so the front bumper isnt in the way and do exactly what you did here, but with heat, rotation force from a gun and an air hammer pushing the bolt out. make sure to take the bolt out all the way and go easy with the hammer. youll hear the pitch of the noise change as the bolt begins to wiggle free. once it turns freely, you could also use an impact gun and crescent spanner to twist and drag the bolt out by the flange as opposed to continuing to use the air hammer. use a steel pipe cleaner brush in a drill to clean the corroded aluminum out and use copper anti seize for that channel in the knuckle. for the heat part, wrap some wet rags around the boots to shield them from excessive heat and oopsies with the torch.

@Mat Armstrong MK2 I used to break cars for a living in a scrapyard. Rather than using WD40; mix up half a spray bottle of acetone (nail polish remover) and half of power steering fluid. Spray the 50/50 acetone/PAS fluid onto any seized nut or bolt one hour before and it will come undone freely; without needing a breaker bar, heat, or impact gun, etc. Trust me, I have undone hundreds of seized nuts and bolts using this. The 50/50 acetone/PAS fluid mix works much better than WD40, or PlusGas, etc. Regards, WR4K.

Great fun, as always. Just to let Tony know, they did go to the moon, a rocket engine works with no oxygen in space, because they bring oxygen along. They have a huge tank of oxygen, for that exact purpose. They can go all the way to the moon, with a fairly low amount of fuel. Mat is slightly onto a big part of it. There's no resistance in space. So as long as you get going nothing will stop you until you either crash into something or get into the gravitational pull of something. Or you put the brakes on and burn fuel. The moon does have gravity, but since it's significantly smaller than the Earth, the gravitational pull is significantly lower. This means you will need to burn fuel to get off of the moon as well, and they did. But it takes far less than to get off of the Earth.

Rocket engines have oxidizer and fuel tanks. That's why it "doesn't need oxygen" in space, it carries its own. You know, it's rocket science.
