How Domain Users can login to clients when the server is unavailable - Active Directory (AD)

Показать описание
Expiation on how a domain user (non-local user) can access their computer when the domain is unavailable. There are many reasons why this is a valuable feature. The best example is when sending users to work remotely via a VPN connection. The users can still use the same domain account to login but IT Administrators need to make sure everyone logged in while connected to the server (locally) in order for them to use the same account to login remotely.

This demonstration uses Windows Server 2022 with Windows 11 Professional end client. But the principles are same for Windows Server 2012 through 2022 (Windows Server 2022 / 2019 / 2016 / 2012). There are no GUI differences among most of the pervious versions of Windows Servers. The enforced GPO settings will work on Windows 10 and previous versions of client Operating Systems connected to the domain.

If your organization is using Azure as part of your Active Directory (AD) infrastructure, this local profile login is not required when a client is given a new device as the profile can be pulled from the cloud database. This is however an important step if you have on-premises (on-perm) only deployments of AD.
