I remember watching a fascinating podcast called Diary of a CEO with Lewis Howes a few months back. Lewis talked about how he was completely upfront with his girlfriend at the start about how she was never going to be his number one priority. First was his health, then his purpose and then her. She respected him for this as all her previous relationships had been with men who hadn't had any sort of purpose. It was one of the most interesting podcasts I've listened to for a while and I was gripped from start to finish. This ties in with what you were talking about when it comes to honoring and respecting his purpose and men equally respecting ours.
