Your enthusiasm is admirable! I can tell that you are in it for the right reasons - which is SO important. While I can understand the desire to spend time and money on things to decorate your room, I would encourage you to not go overboard (I have to tell myself that as well). While decorations and ambiance are nice, building relationships with your students is most important. If students have not already returned to school, I would recommend that you prep some generic opening activities for the first week - expectations, rules and procedures, a pre-assessment, getting to know you activities, interest inventories, goal setting, etc. Based on observations and data collected, you can make a plan for moving forward.
I taught middle school for 14 years (I am moving to high school this year) and one thing that I liked to do was include something that represented each student in the classroom. I have done bulletin boards with ¨all about me¨ hand cut outs, or strung pennants with student likes and goals on them throughout the room. As an art teacher, I am sure you can be creative with that aspect. When we had open house, students loved to show their family their work, and it was a sign to parents that I cared about their child. Win-win!

Since your school is just adding art for the first time, I have a feeling that you could probably do just about anything you want, especially if you are the only art teacher in the school. Make the art program your own. Make it something that the student love and want to take year after year. With your care for students and passion for your subject I am sure that you will cover material above and beyond the required skills and knowledge in the curriculum.

I am not good with journaling, but I do like to reflect. As you go through this year, in your own way, keep track of what worked well, what you would do differently next year. We are always learning and growing - it is part of the process.

I apologize for the length of this comment. I just really had it on my heart to encourage you.
All the best! God Bless!

I'm number 10. Keep the videos coming . Love ❤️ the fact you'll be praying for your students every day. We need more teachers doing that 🤓
