Ilias Petropoulos / Ηλίας Πετροπουλος
Anarchoindividualist , largely controversial and persecuted greek folklorist, prolific writer and researcher and to a lesser degree poet. He has written a lot about marginalised groups and behaviours and various other fringe-tabboo-marginal subjects that mainstream folklor historians wouldnt touch. Among others his studies of the now almost mainsteam "rembetiko" (greek traditional folk music that used to be marginalised, with some of still very tabboo subject matter about prison, drugs etc. ) , first printed in 1968 are considered a researchers milestone. Was jailed twice in greece during the 1967-1974 dictatorship for the content of his books and after restoration of democracy in greece he moved to france where he lived for the rest of his life. An anarchist / provocateur till the end of his life, his poems reveal the two sides of his cynical and sensitive self. Several of his books were translated in europe. He has been dubbed as the "folklorist of the margin" by both the mainstream and the underground.
