Are your routing tables starting to get crowded? Smaller routing tables preserve router resources and speed up the BGP best-path calculation. Another benefit is stability - a summarized route will hide individual route changes from BGP peers. Join Ronnie in this episode of his Journey to CCIE to learn how to accomplish BGP route summarization.

Ronnie's Journey to CCIE study is a special series that will document Ronnie's studies, from start to finish, as he prepares to take the Cisco CCIE Certification. The series is perfect for anyone interested in Cisco certifications or who has high ambitions to take the CCIE one day.

@01:38 that might have been true 17+ years ago & when router memory was limited.

Nowadays almost nobody summarize routes . A few tier1/2 SP are aggregating routes but that can cause other issues and specially if your trying to condition routes via BGP-TE to used for the most specific route and condition bgp_paths.
