As a builder I can tell you raising the ceiling is the safest option but they could also lower the debt foundation 🙂

The debt ceiling will be raised. What is concerning is that there are no countries which will opt to buy treasuries even when the debt ceiling is increased but instead sell their treasury bonds holding. Can the feds control the resulting inflation then?

Your spending has been twice your income for 30 years and you're asking the credit card company to increase the credit limit.

Each year the US is faced with the debt ceiling problem. I think the US gov spend more than it receives. Many US gov agency need to downsize, cut military budget, and cut unnecessary spending. Federal gov need to give some power over state to take over some government authorities. That debt will never be paid even in centuries to come as it keep borrowing.
