History:
During the War of 1812 between Britain and the United States, Bloody Bay was the point of assembly and departure for the British naval armada's ill-fated expedition to storm New Orleans. Bloody Bay got its name because it was used by 19th-century whalers who butchered their catch there. The whales were towed in to be disembowelled and it is said that the waters of the bay frequently ran red with their blood. As the legend goes, a pirate named Calico Jack Rackham and his band of ruffians were captured along the bay after vast quantities of rum did them in.
