Boosey & Hawkes Concert Band - Grade 3
This classic work for young bands has stood the test of time and continues to appear on many state required lists. Based on three American folk songs (The Promised Land, Cindy and I'm Sad and I'm Lonely) it works just well for programming on lighter concerts as it does for contests and festivals. A trusted favorite.
Recorded by the North Texas Wind Symphony – Eugene Corporon, conductor. Teaching Music through Performance in Band, Vol. 1, Grade 2-3 Reference Recordings, CD-418. Used with permission from GIA Publications, Inc.

Played this my 10th grade year (1991-92 school year) for the Georgia Musi Educators Association Festival and Contest. You can hear the judge on the tape saying (at the end) "Baritone, you are speeding up!! Baritone, you are getting out of hand!!" That Baritone...was me!!!

I remember playing this on my bass clarinet, that year there was two of us and it was so fun. Two years later my dear bass clarinet friend passed away. in tears. Miss you Aurora

Back after 4 years, played this for band as a clarinet player in 8th grade. Can't describe the emotions and nostalgia listening to this. Good ol days

I feel like this is a song you would play marching off to war and walking through the peaceful landscapes of France before all of the fighting destroys it

Played this in junior high in Pasadena, CA, in the early 70s... it's so good to hear it again. I was the trumpet soloist.. I'm Sad and I'm Lonely is definitely there. 😂

I played 3rd clarinet for this piece. Although I was sad getting the 3rd part, I grew to love playing this song, especially in the “I’m Sad and Lonely” part. It’s so beautiful and fun to play!!
update: i made this comment in my freshman year of high school, i’m a freshman in college now but my band got to play this for my last concert of high school! i ended up playing the same part but in a different ensemble 😭

I remember my band trying to perfect this for a concert or a festival and my band director getting so frustrated over our little mistakes that he ended up scrapping it and having us only play it as a warm-up piece lol. The good times of concert band

I loved this piece because every time I would cry on the part they call "I'm sad and I'm lonely". I played this in my band.
