2017 Ford Explorer cabin air filter replacement
What is necessary to change the cabin air filter in your Ford Explorer. This cabin filter should be generally changed every 15,000 miles.

Notice: He doesn't show the actual removal of the air filter access piece... for a reason. These are a PAIN to get off and should be done once the whole glove box is removed.

Tried it this way and nearly broke the glove box off. Definitely not the right way.

dear sir i will be contacting your dealer for a glovebox door. just broke the ear where the pin goes through . you are promoting improper methods. alldatta, ford and the aftermarket manufacturer of the replacement filter indicate, removal of glove box door is necessary.

What sheta design. Almost impossible to fit your arm in there. Then the clips on that door dig into your fingers when you remove it. This will be the last time I change this filter.

Thank you dude! Other guy removed the entire thing.

I have something stuck behind the glove box. How can I get it out? without the dealer ship chargeing me $120.00 pluss tax to get it out?

I have a 2014 Explorer and I have small hands. There is No way to change the filter without removing the glove box. There’s 2 White clips on each side . They Do Not come out easy and it’s worse putting them back in, no space .
Now, removing air filter cover, it’s Plastic be careful.
If you want more misery, locate fuse panel under dash and try to remove fuses.
The Idiots who made the Explorer had no intention of any maintenance.

Question, if I put an air freshener on top of the filter, will it mess it up? Asking for a friend lol

Don’t do it this way. Easy to break plastic clips on bottom trying to squeeze your hand in. $13 job turns into $300. Hacks like this cost people money.

Can you do fuel filter replacement on this same model of explorer?

Isn’t there 2 bolts that hold the glove box on the bottom? Lol Atleast there is in my 2017 explorer sport. I wouldn’t recommend doing this way at all. 👎👎👎

I am so angry with Ford for "engineering" this filter location to be so difficult. I believe this is the last Ford I will own. Everything is hard to do including cabin air filter (I damaged the hinge pin), air filter, oil dip stick, etc. Stupid designs that are not consumer friendly do not make for repeat sales.

Now thats the right way of doing this. 👍

Not enough details about how to use the hook tool with the first clip on the glovebox

I just know I'll break one of those freaking tabs off

Don’t use this method. Remove the retaining clips first. Bad method.

Typical modern day engineering, leave no space for anything!
