Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in France on Thursday, where he is hoping to build on his country’s “strategic relationship”, but the trip may be overshadowed by stalled defence and nuclear contracts with French companies.

The sale of 126 French-made Rafale fighter jets, estimated to be worth $12 billion, will be discussed by Modi and French President François Hollande, but both Indian and French government sources told FRANCE 24 that an announcement is unlikely during the visit. Talks on the contract have been ongoing since 2012.
