Great tips! It is so important to be as independent as possible. My grandpa who is completely blind loves to cook by the way.

Thank you for making this video! A lot of the things you mentioned about the bump dots and braille is what I learned from training, but you’re the first YouTuber that I’ve seen talk about it and show it so simply. And I liked how you also pay attention to the top of the different detergents. I just started using the laundry “egg” which I like because all I have to do is throw it in the washer. It has little pellets in it that suds up when wet and clean the clothes. Have you ever seen the bump dots on measuring cups? That’s how they had them labeled at the center where I was trained. They had them on the like holder part of the measuring cup. (They only had the 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, and 1 cup. And they put 1 dot for the 1 cup, 2 dots for the 1/2 cup, 3 dots for the 1/3, and 4 for the 1/4 cup). I have a set of cups and teaspoons that I need to add the dots to them. It does make it a lot easier on the eyes when you can rely on your hands for the bump dots and braille. Great video! 👍

Cayla, I am blind and I own a kitchen shop. One product I love is oven rack guards. They are silicone covers that go along the edge of your oven racks so you don’t burn yourself. I’d be happy to send you a complimentary set if you’d like.

I'm 11 years old and my O&M teacher shared this video with me as a lesson. It's cool how you do things! This could help me when I'm an adult.

That was a really interesting video. I am legally blind myself but have enough vision to see things close up within a meter from my face. I live in Australia and I have been able to get some assistive equipment that has really helped me in the kitchen. I don't know if you can get something similar where you are but I have a talking induction hot plate, talking convection microwave and talking kitchen scales. This was just an idea I thought I'd share with you. You are doing so well already. I have just started to cook and it's so good having these items.
It's so good how you have been able to find ways of using stuff in the kitchen and laundry.

H Cayla, the bump dots can be had at hardware stores. They're also used on cabinet doors to keep them banging when closing. There used to be something like tub and tile calk in a toothpaste type tube that can be used to mark things for touch. I don't know if it's still available. Audible sounds on appliances are helpful too.

This is great Cayla! I have bump dots everywhere at home too. Have you seen those braille measuring spoons by the way?

I hope this dosen't sound offensive but the more of your video's I watch the more appreciation I have for the vision I do have. I do spill things so I poor over the sink but i can read the words on the washer and dryer If I lean in. I don't know brain and I am terrified of going blind.

I was surprised that you used your finger when pouring your apple juice. I’m from Ireland and have a liquid level indicator, a little rectangular box that has prongs that clip over the edge of the cup and has a battery, so when the liquid touches the prongs it sets off a little alarm to let you know to stop pouring, very useful when making tea or coffee! 😊

I have none of that stuff. I need to get some! I was just trying to measure water in one of those clear glass cups yesterday and it's old so the numbers are a little faded. I had to just guess and hope for the best.

I have a question for you do you use any assistive devices like I'm planning on purchasing and orcam my eye which it has facial recognition it could identify products in the store along with reading and other things so I was just curious if you have any assistive devices such as the one I mentioned thank you

You should put Braille labels on all the things in your house.

Are all american washing machines opened from the top? We have them, along with the dryers, open from the front of the machine, and not the top. How do you get all the clothing out easily after a wash?
