Missed an opportunity to say ‘Tanks for watching’ at the end!

I enjoy your channel as you show that good modelling can be affordable and fun. To me, at least, there has to be more enjoyment adapting an old Airfix/Dapol kit to the prototype you want, than paying strong money for a wagon and just opening a box.

Thanks for the video, I bought a pack of 4 of these on impulse. After 4 years I've still not assembled them. Here are some brilliant ideas for me to start with. Love the video.

Great job! As someone who used to work in the recycled plastic industry, the flash is solely down to tooling wear. The plastic has nothing to do with that on its own.

This is rather timely as I have three of these on my workbench under construction. 2 of them have the original boxes!
A few tips: 1) fit brass bearings if possible 2) Fit weight to the bottom of the tank prior to attaching the ends 3) snip the nodules on the top of the chassis that poke into the holes on the underside of the tank: quite often, the holes are misplaced and if you don't remove the nodules, the chassis will end up twisted 4) Replace wheels with Hornby 12mm 3-hole disc wheels - they run a lot better than Dapol's

Amazing video Nigel. I remember molasses wagons similar to these running in Scotland up to the end of Speedlink. They made an awful squeal when a train stopped at a signal so we're probably vacuum clasp brake fitted.

22 minutes of my life which I thoroughly enjoyed watching. Love the back stories too. ❤

I remember building the Airfix railway kits when I was 6 years old so that's 61 years ago. Funny that now I'm 67 years old now and I'm still building them.

What a fantastic video! I very much enjoyed not only the build but also the detailing work. I am inspired to give that a go myself. Thank you for including the links and for sharing this!

Top work there. I have sixteen of these kits built up, eight in the original livery and eight in plain black with 433XX numbers series for my layout is early 1970's. I cut and filed the ladders to achieve a better look to them which was quite a chore. Certainly a kit worthy of a bit of work to refine and enjoy.
Additionally I have also built 24 Presflo's, twenty four in BR Bauxite with various lettering variations and eight in APCM grey and four converted to ICI salt wagons.
The best ex Airfix kit produced by Dapol is the Prestwin wagon as the underframe is very well represented.

Both CCT and Railtec do alternative transfers for all the above wagons noted.

Really excellent and pragmatic ‘how to’ film. Motivational, it’s great to see some real modelling. Thank you.

An enjoyable and in-depth video showcasing how good some older models can be made to look. Looking forward to your next kit video!

Nice. Especially the weathering on the one you built whenever ago.

I used to buy these tanker kits from Airfix in the mid 1950's. I thought they were great, but i was a kid, and two shillings for a kit was a lot of money in them olden days...

I've got a couple of these I bought in a shop in London 50 years ago - still unbuilt!

Great kits! Even 60 years on. Thanks for this. I have a couple of these, built without modification and from before Dapol included decent wheels and couplings. Heavily weathered with some extra weight, decent wheelsets and Mainline couplings, they still look and run brilliantly, as such they are an absolute bargain. Time I got some more!

I remember building one of these in the early 70s, and I bought some a couple years ago and built them, and frankly, I think they're fine and I quite like them. The 16 ton minerals are adequate too. The cattle wagons are a it chunky around the doors.
