Sadness and Sorrow (Special ver.) - Naruto OST [Piano]

Показать описание

This piano arrangement is essentially a "piano fantasy" of Sadness and Sorrow and it's retelling the whole life story of Naruto. His loneliness, his exciting adventures, and his dramatic final battle with his best friend Sasuke - all this can be heard in the music.

There are six chapters in this piano arrangement:

0:00 1. Sadness and Sorrow
2:32 2. Konohagakure
4:05 3. Hinata's Love
5:13 4. Jiraya's Legacy
6:25 5. Final Battle with Sasuke
7:17 6. The Seal of Reconciliation

Each chapter is using the melody of Sadness and Sorrow in a different variation. I also composed a few transitions to smoothly connect each chapter into one whole story.

1. Sadness and Sorrow 0:01
Naruto had a rough childhood and I still remember the sad scene, where Naruto was sitting all alone on the swing, rejected by his peers. I tried to imitate the sound of a Shamisen (Japanese Instrument) by using either tremolos 1:00 or finger repetition in 1:31. The Shamisen is heavily featured in the Soundtrack of Naruto and I simply love the ephemeral sound it produces.

2. Konohagakure 2:32
The next chapter starts with a “drop” in 2:32, portraying the swift movements of the Shinobis in Konohagakure, Naruto's home village. It represents Naruto’s Shinobi training arc and the melody of Sadness and Sorrow gains a lot more momentum with the accentuated rhythm in the left hand in 3:20.

3. Hinata’s love 4:05
Hinata played an important role in Naruto’s life and I composed a short original melody to introduce her in this chapter. I imitated the sound of a Shamisen in 4:05 to reflect Hinata’s gentle nature. The Sadness and Sorrow melody returns again in 4:40 but in a different time signature and slower tempo.

4. Jiraya's Legacy 5:13
The sudden key change from E-minor to C#-minor symbolizes the growth Naruto is experiencing after losing his mentor Jiraya. Flowing left hand movements are introduced in 5:19, foreshadowing the upcoming battle in 5:55. There are two key changes in 6:02 and 6:09 and the tempo is constantly increasing. All this serves as a musical buildup for the upcoming climax in the next chapter.

5. FINAL BATTLE with Sasuke 6:25
And so, the final battle has begun. Despite all the awful things Sasuke has done, Naruto simply cannot let his best friend go. The initial Sadness and Sorrow melody has evolved into an orchestral firework, transcending the limitations of the piano. As the music rages on, the final battle comes to an end with one final confrontation in 7:00 but it ends in a draw with an “open” chord in 7:04.

6. The Seal of Reconciliation 7:17
After all is said and done, Naruto and Sasuke finally acknowledge each other and reconciled for good. The original Sadness and Sorrow melody is being played again, but in G-minor instead of E-minor, showing the character development of Naruto. And last but not least, the piece ends with a G-major chord , symbolizing a new start for both Naruto and Sasuke.

Well then, this has become longer than expected but I hope you enjoyed my interpretation of the music! Sometimes the power of nostalgia can really do wonders with your productivity. I am also glad that I can still discover new ways how to arrange anime music on the piano and this “piano fantasy” is my next step to further explore the world of story-telling on the piano.

Thank you for reading, and I hope I can see you next Monday again with another sad theme arrangement!

This is easily in your top 10 piano arrangements. The variety of piano techniques (tremolos, rapid octaves and arpeggios etc.), attention to detail and tonal control, and storytelling artistry displayed in this arrangement cannot be overstated.

One of the most iconic and nostalgic anime pieces that I've watched. Seeing how Naruto went through sadness and sorrow, not allowing it to drag him down, but instead, choosing to prove to the world that hard work makes the dream work. That your birth doesn't determine your fate.

I can still remember the episode where the third hokage funeral happened and when Naruto asked why good people have to die as the ost plays. So many philosophical questions of the show that can still baffer you to this day.

Thanks for rekindling that ever so small memory back.

What a masterpiece.
0:28 and 0:44 beautiful sixth, the resonances of the middle notes (G, B) are absolutely impressive.

0:59 that left hand transition scale is so expressive, such a smooth introduction to the chorus.

1:00 This is my favorite section of this arrangement. To be honest, I’m not a big fan of trill in general, but this one is just remarkable. Your dynamic control makes me speechless, each layer is clean and not interrupting each other:
The bass line, the flowing middle trill, and the top bright melody line.
You can see that at 1:00 and 1:15 Animenz switch the finger on ‘A’ without letting the note drop. I really appreciate this type of detail, it shows that Animenz treats each note with extra cares.

2:32 the first time I heard it was like ‘Wow, that’s very Japanese’

2:52 I like that pedaling, if you watch carefully, you can see the damper, there is no pedal for F#, E at 2:52, Animenz use the pedal until the B note, similar for 2:59. And I also like the little pedal change at 3:10 and 3:12.

3:20 and the following section, Animenz use pedal to create a non-legal sound effect. The disconnected melody line can always refresh the audiences’ ears and serve as a special seasoning to the music.

4:03 that A# is ELEGANT

4:38 I like the fingering you use, it fits the flow of the music so well.

4:41 this section features a melody that’s half beat prior to the bass line, I really like that singing tone at 4:54 and 4:57

5:19 I like how you emphasis each of the top notes in the left hand for the entire section, very nice shaping.

5:37 my interpretation of that ‘echo’ on the lower octave is that it’s the legacy Jiraya passed on to Naruto, who is following his teacher’s steps, but in his own way.

5:56 that looping melody somehow gives me Ashes on Fire vibe, especially the octave at 6:10, haha.

6:25 This section is very energetic, you can find that there are triplets at 6:28 in middle section, then the triplets are moved to the left hand bass at 6:40, the constant triplets sustain the tension through the entire battle. This reminds me that in Schubert’s Erlkönig, there are ostinato triplets to imitate the clattering sound and keep the whole piece in tension.

6:32 I love that extra middle voice

6:45 that run is almost the same to Guren no Yumiya’s ending run.

6:53 start from this point, the left hand rhythm is insanely addicting: my favorite one will be at 6:55 with little pedal cut.

7:01 that fast double G octave is SO SATISFYING.

This arrangement is definitely my top3 (or maybe No.1) of your 2022 arrangement to date.
I was too busy to write a comment, but I feel like I have to, to show my respect to your hard work, I hope it’s not to late, Thank you Animenz !

Naruto taught me more than school, more than university and said things that cannot be expressed in words and things that cannot be kept silent. Every ost in Naruto is a masterpiece, because the soul was invested in them. Therefore, they are able to cause strong emotions.Thank you, Animenz, for bringing me back to my childhood...

Love that it’s the final battle version. When I first watched that fight, I was not expecting to hear Sadness and Sorrow again and it hit me like a damn truck

In all 9 years I’ve watched your channel, it’s an absolute delight to how you expanded your technical ability and weave it into musical story telling. You are an absolute wonder to my life and to many others, a man I wouldn’t hesitate to call my Hokage.

When Animenz went into radio silence for 3 weeks, my hypotheses were:

A. He was having much fun in Dubai that he barely had time to play piano;

B. He was busy prepping for his upcoming 2 mil subscriber LiveStream.

Yet he caught me by surprise with this sudden upload.
And there was so much emotion in this piece that, all the past Naruto memories came haunting me now. Ok, so seems the truth is:

Z. He became a Piano Ninja by practicing in Konohagakure.

Please pardon my rambling, as I said, he caught me by surprise, I'm actually too drunk to comment today :b

A tad late to this one, but I wanted to take the time to give it a proper comment. I, like many others, grew up with Naruto, and can in many ways relate to his story, and this piece really captures the emotion of the struggles that he went through.

Each of the unique chapters of this piece truly come together into a fantasical story, glimmering with poignance at the softest bits and shining with deep emotion at the energetic climax.

As we move along this story, we hit key moments that really deserve some attention:
1:00 - The tremolo really reminisces the traditional Shamisen sound and feel that comes with the original melody
1:32 - Flowing freely like the wind, the trilled jazzy melody runs its course
2:32 - The transition reminds me of ringing bells of the village, ushering in the next section
2:39 - The rhythm and chords here give slight shades of Weight of the World
4:05 - Closing my eyes to this original melody, I see imagery of cherry blossoms floating through the wind, much like Hinata's sustained love for Naruto
5:19 - An undulating heartbeat resonates through the sustained rhythmic middle harmony, carrying with it Jiraya's spirit into the hearts he has entrusted his legacy to
5:55 - Shades of Bios come out in this transitional pre-chorus section
6:27 - Shades of unlasting's final climactic chorus are felt in this final chorus
7:07 - A sustained low G rings out, carrying with it the weight of the final blows

What a work of art and a worthy tribute to the masterpiece that is Naurto

What a surprise✨ When I saw Animenz perform this OST in Dubai before, I really hope that one day《 Sorrow and Sorrow》will be recorded and uploaded. Now my dream has come true! If 《Blue Bird》is the red of the unrestrained flame, and《Sorrow and Sorrow》 is the dark blue at the center of the burning flame, it is the base color of the "Naruto" story. In addition to exciting adventures, "Naruto" is actually a story with a lot of heartbreak.

The live performance at the time was amazing, as Animenz's adaptation of this traditional Japanese music style was rarely heard. The poignant and moving sound of the piano is like hearing the samisen (三味線)describing the loneliness in Naruto's heart and bringing back memories of those who died in the story ....

The whole performance seemed to be in a dark blue vortex. I was lost in the piano sound of Animenz and it touched my heart deeply. Today's video is an expanded 8 minute version and I'm ready to fall into the vortex again~

This anime had some of the deepest character development backed by a sense of nostalgia.
Also, the song reminds me of how Naruto has always been lonely and what he's been through.
A reason as to why this is a beautiful anime with a soundtrack that fits perfectly.

When the first notes hit, I knew we were diving straight into a nostalgia-trip. You've brought the finale as 'finale' as it can possible get.

I performed quite badly at my recent chess competition(which is still occurring until Friday). Thanks, Animenz for making me forget all my frustrations with this wonderful and emotional song. It really heals my soul.

Hi! I don't know if you're going to read this but I'll just write it. 5 or 6 years ago me and my friend decided to have a couple days fishing trip in the mountains hours away from home (we used to fish when younger but never seriously). We picked around 20 of our favorite anime ost and op's among which there were multiple piano covers of yours, and put them in a couple cd's so they would work offline where internet wouldn't catch up in the mountains. And you literally made the soundtracks for one of the best adventures of our life (after which we actually created the channel with which i'm writing this comment, to just try to spread the joy we felt on that and on the following fishing adventures). And the best thing is that after many years we're going to go back there in a few weeks and you literally just re-released hyori ittai and sadness and sorrow that were just symbolic for parts of the adventure in relationship to a couple things that happened. We also used your covers as background music where they fitted for many of our videos too given you allow to do so. How crazy is that? You tell me! Just wanted to leave this here and say thank you for your music and for contributing to make our adventures special. These 2 new covers i mentioned are most definitely gonna end up in our new cd for this new adventure in the mountains. THANK YOU!

Naruto is not a story but part of our life which we experience atleast once in our own tale.Rather than scumbing to the loneliness he decided to fight and fill it with people he can tryst AND LOVE.
