If you drop wood on the floor and use a fire item/flint and a metal sword you can make a portable fire. You can also put food on the ground in Goron volcano to cook food directly.

How to you make a cooking pot? I can’t find one

but if you eat it, then it's gone and you can't check the ingredients?
