TBM 940 HomeSafe™: Live the experience

Since its certification last year, the HomeSafe™ emergency autoland system has improved aviation safety for the TBM 940.
In previous videos, we explained the “what” and “why” of HomeSafe. In this latest video, watch a real demo flight. This demonstrates – in real conditions – what happens when HomeSafe is activated with the orange button.

I can't imagine the feeling of simultaneously not knowing whether the pilot is dead for sure and what is ACTUALLY going to happen in the next few minutes. One things for sure, at least the number of catastrophes won't be exacerbated with a $5 million hole in the ground, and four or five more grieving families in addition to the pilot's. Well done. The Garmin HomeSafe system comes with an optional Dr. Rumack, telling you every five minutes "I just want to tell you good luck. We're all counting on you."

Garmin did it again, surpassing the competition. In the near future Garmin auto pilot will fly the aircraft starting with taxi, rotation, climb, cruise, descend, approach, flair, touchdown, taxi, and engine shut down.

The video sounded like the computer selected the closest airport based on the GPS location. Can this be changed to fly to the destination airport loaded into the flight management system?

Would HomeSafe accommodate damaged aircraft ? IE, it's one thing to "HomeSafe" if the pilot(s) are incapacitated, but what if there is damage to the aircraft such as a bird strike ?
