If you want to attract beachgoing tourists again, then convert some of the empty lots next to or across from public beach access to parking lots. And dont charge $5 per hour to park. It used to be that you could park where you were staying and walk to the beach. Since many of those accomodations are now in a landfill somewhere, the city government needs to make it desirable to return. High per hour parking fees is not the way.

Its really about the 50 percent rule. You can not rebuild a Pre-FIRM structure that is not compliant. FBC 1612 requires "V" zone construction in a special flood hazard Area!

I hear that Naples was once minimally developed, and was a lot more charming of a place because of that. Considering the increasing high risk and power of hurricanes there, it makes sense to only rebuild sparsely. Move dwellings more inland. This would also free up space for more beach parking. The only con of that would be more crowded beaches.

The devastation from Hurricane Ian was beyond belief it looked like Hiroshima after we dropped the bomb and many people lost their lives. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the victims of that devastating storm

I guess we’re about to find out if platitudes can rebuild FMB. I’m sure that they will impress the insurance companies and get those big checks in the mail.

This will take forever to rebuild, and then the next hurricane will hit. It’s not worth rebuilding. Thank God I did not choose to retire here. I love my Arizona.
