The REAL Cost of Becoming a GOOD GOLFER?! Golf clubs have never been more expensive. Taylormade M5, Cobra F9, Callaway Epic Flash, Titleist TS2, Ping G410, all these clubs will cost a small fortune. Not to mention sexy Mizuno irons, amazing ping irons or even expensive Scotty Cameron Putters. But what is the real cost, the true cost, the honest cost of being good at golf? In this video I talk through what it costs to become a good golfer, how to become a good golfer and how to lower your handicap. Let’s find out... and let’s do it now!

I define a good golfer as someone who repairs their divots and pitch marks, costs nothing and makes everyone have a better time.

Never EVER play a guy that has Old Clubs with New grips for Money.
There's a reason He keeps getting them re- gripped

I think you hit the nail on the head when you said the main cost of golf is in the opportunity cost of time spent on golf. Whether it's practicing or playing a round. I'm one that really enjoys practicing, any time I can get outside, hit the driving range, hit the chipping green or the putting green, I have an absolute blast. There's nothing like hitting the course after having a few great sessions of practice, I personally feel much more at ease and confident that I know how to hit the shots. Sometimes it pays off in lower scores, sometimes it doesn't but it's a process that I really enjoy. Yes you'll still sometimes have bad scoring rounds, but if you can walk off the course knowing you hit the shots as you wanted to, the memory of the score will fade and the memory of the well struck shots will stay with you. That's what keeps me coming back for more :-)

Bag: Nitro standing bag from walmart $30
Irons: used set of Mizuno 58's $150
Ping G30 driver on sale $150
Glove: footjoy on clearance $5
Voodoo balls: $15
Ping G3 wood: $125
Tommy Armour putter (best ever for my swing): $80

Total currently: $605

Just getting started and working on controlling my slice without being too tense. No lessons yet because they get expensive. YouTube, the driving range, and solo golf are my best resources at the moment. Obsessed with the beauty and depth of golf.

Great video thanks for sharing

Great stuff as always James. Love the recent videos, especially the 0-degree iron. Brilliant. Cheers mate!

Great video, so true time is what you need, you’re vids are really getting me thinking, had irons fitted 3yrs ago, new driver played 5 times moved house & suddenly no time for golf & to be honest didn’t miss it after a couple of months but that’s going to change but not spending another penny on clubs, thanks for your great, honest vids

My good friend gifted me a set of Ping i25s, Vokey wedges, a Callaway Rogue 3 wood and the Even Flow shaft for the Rogue Driver head I had just bought. Then I spent roughly another $200 on a Rogue 3* hybrid. But the best money I spent was $70 on a lesson because I couldn't get off the tee. The swing coach pin pointed my issue right away and had me straight about 285 yds before the 45 minute lesson was up. Most times it's the indian not the arrow!

James, one of the best lessons I had to help me be a "good golfer" (I'm not that good, just enjoy the game a lot) was learning how to improve my mind at playing golf. Can you do a vid or vids that talks about what a good mindset is when playing, how to come back from bad shots, what to think about when putting, etc.?

Good video as always. Today’s golf industry is rapidly churning out clubs and costs are higher than ever. I have an old R7 TaylorMade I hit consistently 280yds and I bought it for $27 used. My set is a custom Japanese brand all hybrid which I fitted +1and re-gripped and I enjoy every club. I probably have $400 total with my Odyssey putter being the most expensive part of my bag. I watch my buddies with their Callaway, Ping and Mizuno and other brand clubs have issues with their games. I am an 18 handicap but I do well enough because I hit courses 2 or three times a week. I am constantly improving. Just this weekend I worked out my slice and now draw the ball and can’t hit a slice to save my life now. It took time on my weekend and about 400 balls, but that’s what it’s about... time spent improving. Thanks for your video, it’s always nice to remind players it’s not what is in the bag, but how you invest in yourself that makes you a good golfer. Cheers.

Hi James, Back again, I wrote that comment halve way through your video.  I also played darts when younger and having no I job played 9 hours+ a day.  After a month or so I could hit anywhere on the dart board, ring of number 8 upper or lower, 6 and 9 ring and so on.  I have played and enjoyed golf for 4yrs.  No official handicap, play golf Thursday for a tenner at Stocksfield and still love the game.  Just wish I could play 9 hours+ a day.  You and Liam keep up the great work you are all doing.  Thanks Diddy.

Just invested in a new set of clubs (TM M6 D-type Driver, 3w, 5w, 4hy, M5 irons, 50°/54°/58° Vokey wedges, and TM Spider Tour putter)... had been hitting an M4 D-type and loved it, just traded in to get some distance. Point of this is to say you’re right @James Robinson Golf... I can invest in equipment, but I need to invest in time - on the range, on the green. I hit in the low 90’s but I’m inspired to get out and work to get into the 80’s (which I’ve never done).

Thanks for all your work, James

Great video again James. I would say I've spent about 2k on my clubs. £800 on membership, £5 per comp (2 most weeks), lesson every few months @ £40 a time. Additional cost of golf days, balls & clothing, fuel to get to the course (30 minutes each way) & range balls. I've only dropped 3 shots in the last 12 months but I love every minute I spend on the course so every penny is worth it in my eyes. Oh, I forgot to add, I've only been playing 2 years so no plans to invest much more on clubs for the next few years.
