In case anyone wants to know, no mammals are native to New Zealand apart from bats and seals.
Edit: this includes marsupials and monotremes, those are introduced too

Fabulous footage and whilst I doubt the pig and weta had any interaction at all, the underwater footage of the weta is phenomenal. They're remarkable creatures.

"The tusked weta is New Zelands equivalent of a mouse"

Sir, that is a funny looking mouse

Who was also expecting a fish to eat it?

So beautifully shot! It's still unbelievable how they get so close to the animals without freaking them out.

That dive form was the best I've ever seen, very majestic.
I give 9.5/10

That Weta deserves an Oscar for that performance. I bet he even did his own stunts.

So it instinctively runs and hides from pigs, but not a team of cameramen?

You would think the insects would be camera shy, run and hide, to never be seen or found again. Yet somehow this guy has the thing on camera the whole time like it's nothing... That's amazing !!

Imagine reaching into the river and pulling out a handful of cricket.

How does the #BBC manages to find and film these seemingly invisible life stories? Amazing!

Insect logic: run past 16 climbable trees to plunge in a river full of predatory fish.

Not many arthropods can easily transition between land/air and water, usually just because water tension is so much more dangerously strong at bug size, we don't see it happen often, but it makes sense that a mammal sized bug wouldn't give it a second thought.
