Shot peening, also known as shot blasting, is one of the effective ways to reduce fatigue of parts and increase life.

Shot peening is to spray high-speed projectile streams onto the surface of the part to plastically deform the surface of the part to form a strengthened layer with a certain thickness. A higher residual stress is formed in the strengthening layer. Due to the presence of compressive stress on the surface of the part, part of the stress can be offset when the part bears a load, thereby improving the fatigue strength of the part.

Shot blasting is used to remove oxide scale, rust, sand and old paint film on medium and large metal products and castings that have a thickness of not less than 2mm or do not require accurate dimensions and contours. It is a cleaning method before surface coating (plating). It is widely used in large shipyards, heavy machinery factories, automobile factories, etc.

Shot peening is a cold treatment process. It is widely used to improve the fatigue resistance of metal parts under long-term service under high-stress conditions, such as aircraft engine compressor blades, fuselage structural parts, and automobile transmission system parts.

Shot peening is to spray countless small circular media called steel shots at high speed and continuously, and beat them to the surface of the part, thereby creating a layer of residual compressive stress on the surface. Because when each steel shot hits the metal part, it is like a tiny rod beating the surface, making small indentations or depressions. In order to form depressions, the metal surface layer must be stretched. Below the surface, the compressed grains try to restore the surface to its original shape, creating a hemisphere under high compressive force. Numerous depressions overlap to form a uniform residual compressive stress layer. Finally, under the protection of the compressive stress layer, the fatigue strength of the parts is greatly improved and the safe working life is prolonged.
