To clarify the hashish/coke thing (from a native portuguese): You only see these people on highly turists areas, these guys are not portuguese and they DONT have hashish/coke (its some crap pretending to be white powder), and they just target turists, because they know native portugueses already know their 'scheme', thats why they targeted Rhett (they knew Rhett was a turist)

29:15 portugal had one of the worst drug crises in 2001 in the world so to solve it the government decriminalized it and used the resources they used to put into incarcerating users to create safe usage spaces and rehab facilities and invested in stronger punishment for trafficking that’s why you can’t carry more than a certain amount, because they think you might have intent to sell it but there is no drug in Portugal you can be arrested for using only trafficking

You don’t need to look a certain way to be offered drugs in Portugal. You just need to look foreign. The only time I was offered the guy apologized because he mistook me for a foreigner 😂

We learn english in school, but we consume a lot of english content, movies, series, music, videos, so we get used to understand english.

Went to Madeira, Portugal on my honeymoon last October – we LOVED it! Everything Rhett has said rings true to our experience. It was beautiful. Stunning scenery, hiking trails, and delish food. Would totally recommend a holiday there.
