It’s because poor people with guns is “dangerous”

Weapon ownership has always been associated with freedom, and lack of has been associated with the lack of freedom.

Medieval Europe, peasants didn’t really start getting respect until they were taught to use the longbow in an effort to counter French knights in the 100 years war.
The medieval sword wasn’t so good against another fully armoured knight, but it was very good against someone poor and unarmoured.

Toyotomi Hideyoshi instituted the sword hunt, basically banning weapon ownership of the lower classes and creating a bigger disparity between the samurai and commoners. Eg it was codified in law you had to bow to a samurai, and a samurai could kill a peasant whenever they felt like it if they felt offended. No questions asked. Even a different lords peasant.


Why do they want your weapons?
Because it means (like here in australia where they took ours) they can pass through bad laws and not fear any retribution.

They can kick your door in at 5am and not worry you may wake up and start shooting in fear/panic.

Don’t give up your guns. The threat that you could shoot them if pushed too far is the only thing stopping them from going too far.

Never in my life have I felt the need to own a gun in order to protect my house, and that fact alone makes me happy I don't have the misfortune to live in the US.
