I went to an expensive school for a year and bombed out. I was not ready academically at all, and I had a $10, 000 student Loan to pay off. I worked at McDonald’s, joined the military as guardsmen to pay down that debt. People called me a drop out, made fun of me. Eventually I paid off the debt, went back to college when I was mature enough, graduated with a 3.5 gpa and no student loan debt. My buddies have over 100k in debt. I guess “dropping out” was the best thing I’ve ever done.

Nothing to see here. Just another caller making a stupid financial decision looking for Dave to validate it for them which he won't.

But Dave, it's Jason's dream to go to Northwestern, get a Master's degree in marriage counseling, and be broke for the rest of his life.

I was waiting for him to point out the unbelievable irony that this young man is getting a degree so he can counsel people on family and marriage and he's going to do that by getting himself deeply in debt while financial issues are the main problem that marriages fail

haha he's planning on suing someone to help pay for school

150k of debt for 80k income and he already has 50k in debt and 15k in consumer debt. So he'll have 22k debt making 85k income. Almost a 3x debt to income ratio. He's gonna call in 5 yrs complaining about his bad decisions

You can almost pinpoint the moment when Dave is *done*

We have a friend who got a masters degree in the same field from the same school. She completely regrets it. It's not an industry that pays enough to justify the debt.

In order to be able to provide valuable counsel, one must first be able to listen.

This young man has a lot to learn.

I would not see this guy for marriage & family therapy if he's making this much of a mess in his financial life lol. I have a feeling he is going to stay at north western too

Uh hi, I work in mental health in Chicago. This guy will not be making 65-85, 000 starting salary as a marriage and family therapist. MAYBE 50.

Also, a degree is NOT a garentee that you will find a job, or that the job will be well paid.
