Feud between Philippines’ two most powerful political families Marcos and Duterte is going dramatic.

The Philippine president said Friday debate over impeachment of his deputy Sara Duterte, who over the weekend made threats against his life, is a ‘storm in a teacup’.

VP Sara Duterte, daughter of former president, said last week she would have President Marcos Jr. assassinated if she herself were killed, prompting Marcos’ office to vow “immediate proper action”.

Sara has since insisted that she has not schemed to kill the president, as investigators summoned her to testify.

She further played down the criminal complaints, allegations and potential lawsuits that had been made against her in a presser on Wednesday, claiming the actions were aimed at removing her from office, freezing her properties and barring her from traveling abroad.

Duterte has been embroiled in a bitter row with Marcos and his cousin, House Speaker Martin Romualdez, since the collapse of a formidable alliance between their two powerful families that helped Marcos win the 2022 election by a huge margin.

Filipinos are geared to like the whiteman or west in general. The soft power of the press, media, and movies with heavy western backing or influence plays a big part in this process. That is why Philippines becomes an outlier in ASEAN nowadays. As for the marcoses, their wealth is stored in US Denominated accounts, therefore it became hostage to the whiles of the US government.
