Newborns display several behaviors that can often be confusing for new parents, and lead to less than ideal sleep as a result. Often we see our babies doing certain things, and that can lead us to thinking they're awake when they aren't.

Then there are times when we put all of this pressure on ourselves to get them to sleep, when really it's an uphill battle and one that's impossible to win. The end result being excess stress and anxiety - which is the last thing any new parent needs.

In this video you'll learn 4 newborn sleep behaviours and how to manage them when you see them so you avoid unnecessary waking, experience better naps, and hopefully also feel a little more relaxed when it comes to your baby's sleep.

To all my dads out there, yes it’s scary just try your best and follow good advice and it’ll all be alright. My baby just hit 17 months and I’m way more comfortable now then I was before. Be there for mom and baby and you’ll be just fine!

ya i was so shocked during the first week, so much grunting and moving and deep breathing. and then when it's all quiet, you worry even more if they're still breathing!

My advice to fellow dads, change them with every feeding, keep soft, clean clothes on them as much as possible, and help mom out as much as you can with feedings, changing, etc. it’s a lot for the mother and she needs her partner to make the process as least stressful as possible. My baby is a week old and has been absolutely incredible, she is a good sleeper and doesn’t cry often

I know you probably won’t see this. But thank you for making these videos. Long story short after my wife had a c section she was in the hospital for a month with a bad infection. So I was home with the newborn (our first baby) by myself. Your videos were and still are very helpful and comforting. Thank you for all you do

We had our baby girl just 6 days ago, and I'm so tired today, especially, but i wouldn't trade her for the world. What a wonderful fulfilling experience, and this type of love is something different and so special 💕

This is baby #5 for us and we never knew this. This is the sort of helpful info they need to give parents in the hospital

Emma, once again absolutely nailing a topic that I see new parents worrying about all the time, and definitely worried about myself! Just knowing this variability and unpredictability is 'normal' will help so much I think and I wish I had seen it before having my first child! I definitely picked my daughter up so many times when she was still asleep because of these noises and also thought my newborn should be going to bed at 7- I was sure I was doing something wrong when her bedtime was closer to 10pm!

Oh my goodness, I did not know that with my first baby and felt like she barely slept! Seeing this I'm realizing that she was probably still asleep a good amount of those times that I was trying to soothe her. We still have a hard time putting her to bed and now I'm wondering whether I made it worse by doing that. I'm pregnant with the next one now, so thank you so much for helping me to avoid making that same mistake yet again!

my 3.5 month old sleeps 8 hours throughout the night and has been doing so since 10 weeks old. Every baby is different, but I am so glad I had good advice from my mother to put my baby on a schedule after 8 weeks. She is healthy, sleeps well, eats well, and is happy♡

This literally would have prevented my anxiety spiral that first 6 months. Bitter sweet to know it now.

Thank you so much! I'm getting a lot of "advice" from family members to start sleep training my 3 week old. This video is wonderful for all parents

First Time Dad and I must say thank you very much. As a dad I feel like I must rush in to help as my wife gets very tired and I want her to rest. But I did notice that waiting and letting my baby girl make her noises and faces helped her stay asleep.

This video helped alot and reassured me on some hunches. I can't explain how much it helps. Thank you and I'm sure my baby girl does too.

Our sons' sound kept my wife up all night, where I just ignored him. We have a monitor for breathing, and if he stops, it goes off. I just listen for an alarm or crying, so I've been making my wife go to bed early, and little man and I sleep in the living room. Sooo much better for her. She had panic attacks about sleep over this. If we knew this earlier, oh my the stress it would save.
