Next-gen Minecraft? TotalBiscuit has a look at the alpha version of a forthcoming sandbox game from Hidden Path which gives you the task of establishing a civilisation on a floating island.

Early access is now available on Steam. There is even a "DLC" that you can get to help fund the game and get an avatar that floats above the ground instead of walking around.

Waiting for the next Steam sale to try it. It looks fun. I've always been intrigued by minecraft but personally just couldn't swallow the blocky characters and graphics. The fact that this game is still in alpha, doesn't have half of what they mention wanting to put into the game (including enemies and pvp combat and breeding dragons, etc etc) and has as much as it does is pretty impressive, in all honesty.
 
If folks like blocks, keep playing minecraft, it'll live forever and is a great game. I'll enjoy my little crafting niche in a game like this, personally.

awesome format. i'd even argue that the commentating is potentially more entertaining. removing the difficulty of talking analytically and playing at the same time made this style a more entertaining package as a whole. i have highly enjoyed the PAX content. the EDF vid was amazing. i love the "announcer"/narrator-like bits the most, always have.

I definitely want to see more about this. Need to see more about the culture building things, not sure if you didn't cover that or if it's just not implemented yet. But building houses for these guys and building an economy and such seems amazing.

Spectacular. Although I do hope there will be a tool/weapon based system in the final. The upgradable tools was what got me so deep into Minecraft in the first place.
