Q: How to stop USA from getting medals?
A: You just have to wait until USSR host the game again

Country: We are the host this year
Also the Country: Miraculously we will win more medals than the others
...because of the fans

I would combine the counts for East and West Germany back into Germany - we can argue about the Soviet versus Russia counts as well

I love how so many people are whining like children because the US is actually doing the best at a specific thing

Damn, Hungary is doing really well considering its small population and small GDP. Sweden aswell, tho economically speaking, they are far more well-off than Hungary.

My two takeaways:
Finland has an amazing medal count for a country of barely 5 million people
'Merica is #1 (almost always)

Hungary is doing very well. I had a coworker from Hungary in the late 90's. His wife were dying from cancer. He felt lonely. He invited me to party with him. Just him and me. We drank moonshine. He told me that he was a home reserve for the hungarian ping pong team in Barcelona 1992. He had an el-guitar mod 60's. Hell he could play the guitar. He was a funny guy too. I asked why he invited me exactly to party with him. He said you are from the same district as my wife. Moonshine is part of your culture. I knew you could drink moonshine, he said. Which is true.

1896: Greece restarts the Olympics for the modern era. Top dog.
1928: Greece is no longer on the list of champion countries.
In my lifetime, I have never seen the USA place lower than 3rd in the final medal count. Winter or Summer.
With the notable exception of 1980, where the USA chose not to show up at all. We got a big DNF for that year. Many athletes were upset. They trained for nothing.

You should make it top 20! That way we could see some developing nations that have been doing really well and improving their medal counts.
