Segway-Ninebot Kickscooter Max: Unbox & Review

The Segway-Ninebot Kickscooter Max gets you so much for the money! The big wheels, big range, and big body are some of the things I love about it but it does have some flaws. I go over what I love and hate about this scooter while I unbox, test, ride, and review this Segway Max Scooter.

Special thanks to Andrew for taking the time to meet with me on this cold day to unbox and test his scooters!

Segway Ninebot Max pricing and availability

As a big enthusiast of Onewheels and EUCs, I try my first ever electric scooter and I have to say, I was impressed.

Jimmy I have a question for you.

If I want a kick scooter still solidly built. But with 10-20mile range. With a suspension for smooth ride which scooter would you recommend.

Awesome Scooter. 10/10. Massive range, good/moderate speed limit at 25km/hr. Big wheels, and very comfortable ride for skilled skateboarders and BMX riders, who have previous mastered a few things, using your body to assist in hopping over bumps... Tyres are great, great grip, great absorption.... I barely even fold it up... Scoot to the Supermarket for a small shop, and place the basket on the kickboard, and just walk through the aisles that way... This vehicle is part of our future in cities... I'm 46, and I think I could easily ride this at 75 years of age. Super cheap to run...

I'm not in the market for a scouter but still watched this whole video because of your content. Keep up the good informative videos my man!

It really is like the “BEACH CRUISER” of electric scooters. 30 KPH is more than enough getting around. Even through my winter rides the fenders kept myself clear from what came off the ground. Kept up to max speed through most headwinds (some interesting throttle mapping I want to test out further) and hills in my area wasn’t too bad also. It’s not an “OFF ROAD” scooter yet it’s a well thought out solid commuter.
I’m glad an alternative like this is out there (even if the winters aren’t the best conditions for riding them) for people. 👍🛴

I found the ride to be very comfortable with the 10 inch pneumatic tires.

Earlier today I ordered this scooter. This summer I started riding on electric skateboards, but urethane wheels slips on wet roads (yeah, I had an accident last week), so I decided to go for scooter in bad weather days. Can't wait for it to arrive.

Thank you for this review of an electric scooter in snowy slushy conditions.

Hey Jimmy, you can adjust the regen braking intensity in the app. I get approx 33 miles of range on flat Chicago ground in summer in sport mode.

I just got one of these. My first ride on it was about 25km round trip with about 200m of rise in altitude, which it handled nicely and was only just starting to slow down from low battery in the last km or so. It is a very solid scooter and unlike the public-rent-a-scoot Hobo, which is even heavier, its weight is more even towards the back, making the segway kickscooter pro much safer to stop quickly, as it isn't so likely to have the centre of balance pass the front wheel and faceplant you on the ground.

I think the big wheels are better than suspension because simpler, and despite being the same wheel diameter, and perhaps the better, lower, central weight distribution on the segway, the hobo scooters have front suspension but I feel less trying to rip my hands off the handlebars on the same surface, and can roll slower, one handed on not terribly bumpy surfaces without any problems. I don't know what he means about the regeneration not being strong enough. It is only coming from the back wheel but unless you are on a really steep downhill, it will stop you dead if you don't operate the throttle, and I even saw it move from 1.blink to 2 solid during a 2km sharp downhill, I only wish I could see some indication of how much it's getting back.

I am loving my kickscooter pro, the only thing that would make it even more fun is if I could disable the top speed limiter or at least set it to a more reasonable 35. It's not often needed but especially in traffic to not have it wimp out as you get half way around a turn and not keep accelerating as the power is there for it.

Bought my wife an Unagi scooter. Half the price and it’s really not bad. Digital read out. May be one to check out before making a scooter decision. Enjoyable video as usual. Enjoy the snow.

We got that for my wife so we can go out around the neighborhood together. Second best purchase after my Onewheel. It eats up hills just fine too. BTW it has different settings for the regen.

It's not a bad scooter. Lack of suspension, sits a bit low to the ground, not the best folding mechanism, drops to 16mph top speed after 25% of battery is used.

I'd recommend the Emove Cruiser. Much better scooter, although it's about twice the price.

At around $800-$1000 there are a lot of Zero 9 clones that aren't too bad, like the Turbowheel Dart. I'd suggest that a person shop around a bit before committing to the Max.

Great review!

Scooters have always interested me. Since I was a "Razor Ripper" in my early life, perhaps I'll see what they are all about so many years later. Great video, Jimmy!

After a couple of weeks of watching reviews for all kinds of scooter (I'm 5'10" 175 lbs and I plan to commute 11 miles each way from Queens to Manhattan) I choose the Segway MAX. The Horizon was a close 2nd. Deal breaker for me is that the MAX looks sturdier/built like a tank and low maintenance.
6 MONTH UPDATE:
6 month later, riding 11 miles each way almost every day between queens and Manhattan, I can say I made a good choice. No issues. 19mph is all you need in this city. I'm 175lbs and 11 miles drains 60% of my battery on Super. It takes me 35 mins To complete the 11 miles. I don't plan to ride it in rain, I'll take the Subway those days.
