Zubimendi Regrets Rejecting Liverpool, Wants January Move. #premierleague #liverpooltv #football

Martin Zubimendi is said to regret choosing to stay at Real Sociedad over joining Liverpool this summer. After turning down a £52 million bid, he has reportedly asked Liverpool to pursue him again in January. Although the 25-year-old initially committed to the move, he changed his mind following Real Sociedad manager Imanol Alguacil's persuasion, who highlighted Zubimendi’s love for local food and hiking.
Zubimendi has asked Liverpool to reconsider, though this claim should be viewed cautiously, as it references "English media" as its source. Real Sociedad’s poor start to the season, sitting 16th in La Liga and barely above the relegation zone, has fueled speculation. Despite finishing in the top six for five consecutive seasons, the team has struggled to score this year.
Some believe the issue could be Zubimendi not receiving a contract extension, even though his current deal runs until 2027.
Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay recently denied claims in an interview that Zubimendi had requested a better contract to remain with the club. He stated, "There have been no discussions with Zubimendi regarding a contract renewal, neither now nor previously. He did not impose any conditions on us."
"He recognized the current situation and understood that some players were set to leave, realizing it was the right time to stay at Real Sociedad. There were no conditions regarding a renewal, and our conversation with Martín was brief and straightforward."
the primary reason behind Zubimendi's change of heart was the persuasion of manager Imanol. It’s believed that Imanol held multiple meetings with the 25-year-old, appealing to his emotions by highlighting the disappointment his departure would cause among the fans.
Imanol also emphasized the benefits of Zubimendi’s life in San Sebastian, presenting the excellent food options in the Basque region and Zubimendi’s passion for hiking Mount Ulia. He also reminded the player of his earlier statement to Spanish TV about staying at La Real after the Euro 2024 final.

It's English media but neither paper are really pro-Liverpool so to speak. They have no reason to glaze Liverpool and never have in the past.
Do I believe it? Meh, wouldn't really be strange if he regrets staying at La Real when they're having it tough while the team that he rejected have started in great form.
That also makes it an easy "story" to write.

We'll see in January. However, Gravenberch has been amazing in the role that was meant for Zubamendi so I'm not exactly that bothered if he comes or not. Fact is, he wouldn't be a guaranteed starter for LFC anymore. Something he would have been if he came before the season started.
