Lyrics

365 days
tell me you’re a wounded soldier
ya ain’t had much luck but grace is
in the eye of the beholder
& i had my own ideas but
i carried you on my shoulders, anyways

i stop picking up all your phone calls
take a shot at decency
if i heard your voice on the other line
unceremoniously
the shadows of a lie or
a state of emergency
i’ve been run down

i catch your poison arrow
i catch your same disease
bow like a weeping willow
buckling at the knees
begging you please

if you fly up beyond the cosmos
it’s a long way to fall back down
you always go about this the wrong way
& i’m too weak to just let you drown

so when you kill, i kill
& when you ache, i ache
& we both haunt this old lifeless town
& when you fail, i fail
when you fly, i fly
& its a long way to come back down

365 days
tell me i’m your lucky charm
we defy gravity again
somehow make it out unharmed
& i have my thoughts about it but
i carry you in my arms, anyways

Shout out to the steadicam operator. What a beautiful oner. I bet dancing along those hard lights and not getting your shadow in frame was tricky. And working within a slim window of this beautiful golden light. I really love this and Right Back To It's video - absolutely crushing it, Katie & team.

I love Katie's stripped down songs the best. The most talented songwriter I've ever heard. Can't wait for the album and tour!!!!

A real shot at Album of the Year in my book. Love that Spencer Tweedy is the drummer on this record. Just cymbals on this song, but Spencer really is a great drummer.

I love how the song doesn't stick to a normal song structure. No need for a hook. Feels like a diary entry that keeps rising in intensity. Great song!

Don't remember the last time I was this stoked for a new album

The Waxahatchee Creek runs about a mile south of my original home in Alabama. Both of my parents were baptized in it, and I used to swim and fish in it and camp on its banks. I only discovered your music today. You have a fascinating sound.

I had already heard this a few times but it totally floored me on my run today. Absolutely stunning, so grateful for her incredible talent at putting so many messy emotions to beautiful words.

The more music she strips away, the more sound there seems to be.

Just incredible. What a song, what a vocal performance. I can't wait for this record. (Beautifully shot video, too)

One of the best songwriters of our time. Can't wait to hear the rest of the record and have to see her live

Even half of the lyrics, sentiments, wisdom would have been enough to make me want to keep this one in my pocket! 🙏💗

Only recently discovered you folks, and I can't say I'm into much of some of the older stuff I found, but holy hell the recent stuff is magical. I think of the 384k views on 'Right Back to It', I'm about 1/384th of them :)

The simple, understated, introspective, calm, and serenely beautiful visuals in this flow so well with its sound. And create a pleasing, chill mood. Beautiful harmonies!

I lost my best friend 10 years ago in late March and this song perfectly describes our relationship. This song broke me (in the best way). Truly remarkable.

I dig this one more than bored. Great song. The vocal melody here sounds as challenging as ‘Fire, ’ something only she could pull off

This song could be an hour longer and I’d be happy. Really nice
