Sony RX10 IV Destroys Micro Four Thirds For Wildlife?! (Olympus EM1 III + Best Telephoto Lens)

We have a camera battle! Can the little Sony RX10 IV with its 24-600mm lens outdo a micro four thirds setup? M4/3 has a huge advantage for wildlife video over full frame, that's supposed to be its niche. We got the Olympus EM1 III with the Panasonic 100-300mm f4-5.6 II and the 100-400mm f4-6.3. Who has better stabilization? Image quality and autofocus? Color science and sharpness?

Of course the bridge camera would win the bridge test, unfair comparison

I've had this Sony RX10 Mark 4 for about 3 years now. And although low light is its challenge I use it more than any other camera because of its extreme flexibility and great lens.

For this kind of long lens, Dual-IS is the way to go. So you take a G9 or GH5 for the Panny-lenses. Olympus has also great long lenses with Dual-IS on the E-M1-III.
Also there is a big difference between IS for stills and IS for video. For video, it is more like a smoothing for a number of seconds over a lot of frames. For stills it's freezing for each frame, center the sensor and freeze for the next frame.
I expect Panny to be better in video, would like to see a test with that. The CIPA-rating is done with stills only.

Kasey's wildlife cinematography makes David Attenborough and the BBC quake in their boots.

Brings two panny lenses, doesn't take G9 for testing. oh the user error

Epic video, thank you for your work and time.
I had the 100 400 and its sharp at 100, 200, 300 and not sharp at 400, i did not like it, the rx10iv is amazing and its my main zoo camera.

BBC called - they want you to direct their new Canadian wildlife documentary/ They also want you to replace Sir David Attenborough for all the narration work, including over-dubbing past documentary work.

You can adjust Sony colours, just adjust the AWB or any of the manual settings.

The 100-400 on either the GH5 or G9 is stable handheld. It's what I use to track UFOs.

When you are comparing Panasonic lenses to Sony why didn't you use your G9? The 100-400 is a great lens and works well with the dual stabilization. The manual focus is also good/easy on the G9.

I dunno, those 'mom' jokes always crack me up.

As the Sony is a compact system, the lens and body is more optimised and configured together. Sony always made good optics and stabilization.

Colours on Olympus are out of this world. Sony’s colours are horrible in this example.

The Olympus 100-400 is much better than those two Panasonic lenses. The Olympus works with teleconverters. It means getting more than 1:1 macro. It is a brilliant telemacro. I also have the Panny 100-300 but haven’y used it since getting the Oly 100-400.

The RX10 IV really shines with portrait flash. It’s TTL is close to perfect, combined with a leaf shutter means flash sync at all shutter speeds. Works really well. Plus excellent slow motion with a 600mm lens is really useful. The RX10 IV is a very underrated camera. But for macro the Oly EM-1 III with 100-400 plus teleconverter is first choice.
