Mac Studio Upgrade M3 ULTRA & M4 MAX, do you think this makes sense? A look at this new generation Mac Studio and some predictive performance based on previous testing results. Does creative pro still need the Ultra, or will the Max or even Pro do just fine? My initial thoughts are in this video.

Nice! Apple really have ensured that you will want more than last time and based on that you will need to get a better chip. The M4 Pro with 64GB RAM configuration is so good, but for sure steps on M4 Max toes

Imo, the Mac Pro, needs double the spec of the ultra chips, aka the extreme, with much more configuration and inputs. The studio is great but now needs a better display

Great channel and good comparisons. I went with the baseline M3 Ultra over the M4 Max. In 3-4 years I will upgrade to the next iteration of the Ultra chip (likely the M5 or M6).

For a typical wedding/event photographer's work flow would you go with the M4M 16/40 128 GB memory, or would you go with M3U 28/60 96GB memory? The price is so close on these configs.

I guess the m3ultra will still be the way to go for Lightroom if you do a lot of import export, panorama and also some FCPX export and stabilisation

I am hesitating between a M4 max 16 CPU 64go ram 2tb (4100 euros) and the base m3 ultra 28 cpu, 96go ram 2tb (5500 euros)

But look like the 50% more ram, more gpu and additionnal video encoder could make a real difference

What is the basic differences between the M3 and M4. The biggest difference is the the M3 has an Ultra bus where the M4 does not have an Ultra bus. Second M4 is a newer implantation of the newest silicon which really only affects yield results. The M4 has a hardware fix that the M3 does not. This hardware fix is corrected in the systems that run on pre M4 processor and is doing specialized software not generally used.

When I worked for Apple, I got used to using multiple machines. One for development (software development), one for administration (web browsing, e-mail, conferencing, etc) and multiple test machines. I still do this now so I configure each machine slightly differently but I like how you figure out your machines.

Changing the chips being used have the longest time between development and deployment. So do not expect an ultra M4.
