Europeans may be preoccupied by their own troubles at home – but many minds are also focused on events across the Atlantic, with the US presidential election approaching on November 3. The result will have direct consequences in Europe: will there be four more years of Donald Trump, who's described the European Union as a foe and launched a determined trade war with the bloc? Or a new path with Joe Biden? And what impact will the election have on the course of Brexit and the UK's new relationship with the EU? We debate the options with two MEPs.

Trump wants to divide EU. EU should learn to be independent despite who ever becomes US president. Even if Trump loses, the number of votes he is getting shows there is high possibility of similar presidents getting elected in future.

I find it really interesting that France 24 chose a French politician to represent a pro-Trump viewpoint and an Irish politician to represent the opposition, pro-Biden viewpoint (Biden's entire campaign has been to remind people that he's not Trump).

The people of America will need the support of it's allies in Europe no matter the outcome. There are probably very tumultuous months ahead. And Europe needs to step up more on the international arena. It can no longer be America's little sibling.

i'm uncomfortable with Ireland maintaining it's adversarial position towards England, i'm in NZ and know a few Irish people (who are now New Zealanders) very well, and they lean towards a United Kingdom and don't cling to the old aggression, like your speaker . Solidarity between the english speaking countries is the goal/ideal.

Either there's more to laugh about with Trump or the other candidate wins and ends up being a lot less amusing.

No, new wars is not an accomplishment in this perspective. The social "wars" he has started are unacceptable. You are a man. You don't seem to understand what he has done to 51% of the worlds population. I think you, Sir, is very wrong. Even if you have good points. But your conclusions are wrong. Europe can be a superpower too, next to the others. Not under America.

The UK should reprimand Ireland for sowing divisions in NI. Dublin tends to forget how much help they got from the UK post 2008. They were in the same basket as Greece and Italy and the only reason they have come out of it successfully was because of the UK's help. If Trump wins again, we need to rethink our relationship with Ireland especially.
